Ontario to pause Reagan tariffs ad after Trump terminated Canada trade talks

  • Ontario Premier Doug Ford said his province will pause ads featuring former President Ronald Reagan criticizing tariffs so trade talks between Canada and the United States can resume.
  • Ford’s announcement came a day after President Donald Trump terminated trade negotiations with Canada because of the ad.
  • The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute claims that the ad misrepresents Reagan’s radio address speech from April 25, 1987, and that the remarks were edited without permission.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Friday the province will pause airing television ads featuring former President Ronald Reagan criticizing tariffs after World Series games this weekend so that U.S.-Canada “trade talks can resume.”

Ford’s announcement came a day after President Donald Trump terminated trade negotiations with Canada because of the ad, which Ontario has been airing in U.S. markets.

Ford said he spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney before deciding to pause the ad, effective Monday.

I wont buy beef from any other country no matter the price as long as its labeled. But if it aint labeled you dont know where the cow came from. I support American cattlemen. Part of the problem is shrinking herds in America due to drought and higher dependence on Mexican beef, which has gone to hell because some Mexican parasite has affected their herds. Trump had to slap tariffs on Brazil's beef because we were getting screwed with trade and they refused to deal.

I used to hunt on farms and got to know cattle guys. Droughts or herd cuts take time to come back from and have to be economically worthwhile. With droughts they not only affect the herds and getting them to water but feed prices shoot way up whether if your growing the feed or buying it. When you cut your herd size because your losing money it then takes 2 years to grow a beef to market size so your tossing the dice on what the markets going to be 2 years from now and if, or if not, your going to get your investment back. Let alone a profit.

The beef Industry, in reality, is a real risky business.

Beef, it's what's for dinner...till I can't afford it because some fat clown starts throwing tariffs around.

USCA Sends Letter to President Trump on Argentina Beef Imports

USCA Comments on USDA’s Rancher and Consumer Plan & Unconfirmed Imports

More winning. Trump/China trade deal and removal of sanctions about to be declared. The biggest market for American beef open again.

Someone should tell the beard that beef prices have soared to the point many American's cant even buy it anymore or order it at restaurants. That too has to be considered by Trump. The important thing is we need "Made in the USA" tags on our beef so we are assured or a quality poduct.

And theres more to it. American beef farmers are not keeping production down for just one reason. Part of it is because lower production means higher prices = more profits. Raising beef is risky business and foreign competitors have been screwing our farmers for years by protecting their own farmers and smaller beef producers. They know they can't compete with American beef growers on an equal basis and thats why Trump is slapping tariffs on them, or a big reason why. American beef is up 51% since pre-Covid 2020.

Mexican beef can't be imported due to worms. Brazilian Beef is facing a huge tariff. Fuel prices are much lower compared to Biden and his pack of nit-wits. American cattle numbers have been cut down to support higher prices and more profit. The grass fed market has grown considerably and opened up a new wave of income for beef producers. If your growing beef in America and not making money then your doing something wrong.

But $20+ a pound rib eyes, and this is a sale price, is ridiculous and cant be afforded by most Yanks. I paid $12 a lb bone in strips yesterday and made out like a bandit. I just want labels because corn fed beef is my preference and most Yankee beef is corn fed.
