Government shutdown live updates: Stalemate to last at least three days

The United States government shut down early Wednesday morning, setting the stage for the furlough of hundreds of thousands of federal workers and the shuttering of a slew of key programs and services.

Here’s what to know:

  • The full shutdown began after top Democrats and Republicans, including President Donald Trump, failed to agree on a short-term deal to keep the government funded.
  • Democrats, led by Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, demand that any stopgap funding measure include an extension of enhanced Obamacare tax credits.
  • Trump suggested Tuesday that his administration could take major actions during a shutdown, including cutting government benefits for “large numbers of people.”
  • The Senate once again failed to pass dueling Republican and Democratic funding proposals.
  • Here’s how key federal agencies are being affected by the shutdown.

"Nothing much to see. Had a shutdown the last time Trump was president so everyone knows how this works. Supposed to be about saving money but no mention of the 279 Billion dollars a DAY being spent in the ‘defense’ budget’. This shutdown is part of Project 2025 which is proceeding rapidly and can be tracked online. OMB director Vought was the architect of that plan. Read the tracker to follow the game."

Yeah.

Impeached THREE times, too. On obviously-fraudulent DNC-curated "evidence."

Where Barry with his pen and phone, was never challenged. Rule by Speech. Vote for the bill to find out what's in it.

And, of course, Autopen, with the Magic Money Machines and Ten-Percent-fer-da-Big-Guy. No impeachment THERE....

Yes, Pondscum, I do see a pattern there.

Government shutdown hits air travel, closing a control tower and causing delays across the country

Washington —
A pilot preparing to take off Monday from Hollywood Burbank Airport in California took the routine step of radioing the air traffic control tower.

But instead of the usual back-and-forth conversation of coordinating departure, the pilot received a different response: “The tower is closed due to staffing,” according to audio recorded by LiveATC.net.

The exchange is one example of the impact the ongoing government shutdown is having on travelers across the US as air traffic controller staffing issues have led to delays at major airports and forced pilots in some areas to pivot to alternative workflows.

Controllers are considered essential workers, so they must work during the shutdown, but are not being paid.

What Project 2025 Has To Do With This Government Shutdown

Oct 7, 2025 #cnbc
The government may fire thousands of unionized federal workers during the shutdown that began in October. This effort was foreshadowed in Project 2025, what some consider a blueprint for conservative governance. Several authors from the document are now senior-level members of the Trump administration. CNBC spoke with one who believes the federal workforce needs to change. Their efforts could reshape the federal bureaucracy, but do little to alter the country’s financial outlook.

Trump suggests not all furloughed workers will get back pay: ‘It depends’

  • President Donald Trump suggested some federal workers who have been furloughed during the government shutdown will not receive back pay.
  • The remark came hours after the circulation of a draft White House memo arguing that federal employees placed on unpaid leave are not guaranteed retroactive pay.
  • The memo has been viewed as an attempt to ratchet up pressure on Senate Democrats to vote for Republicans’ proposal to reopen the government.

Congressional leaders offer support for furloughed federal workers receiving back pay

Congressional Republican leaders are hopeful that furloughed workers will receive back pay at the conclusion of the government shutdown, responding to news that legal analysts are scrutinizing whether government workers will receive compensation for time off.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) acknowledged that experts may be scrutinizing the 2019 federal law that requires federal employees to receive back pay. The comments come after the distribution of a memo from the White House's Office of Management and Budget arguing there is a loophole in the law.

Massie is turning out to be one of the good guys.

And he's got a leaden curtain of silence draped over him, from the meⒹia.

I hope somehow he finds his way out of it, a way to get word out to the public...

THIS...is an argument for NEGOTIATION? What in HELL are DemocRats, and Gnu Yarkers, even THINKING.
