Republicans Say White House Budget Proposal Amounts to a Cut in Defense Spending

Republican lawmakers are calling the White House’s defense budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year an overall cut to the military following Friday’s release of the so-called skinny budget.

While the White House is claiming that the Fiscal Year 2026 proposal would include the first $1 trillion defense budget, Republicans on Capitol Hill say that number includes dollars from the current reconciliation proposal and argue that accounting does not add up to the defense spending they want to see from the new administration.

A White House document reviewed by USNI News said that the Trump Administration’s budget will seek a $113.3 billion increase to the Defense Department’s topline and specifically cites shipbuilding and recapitalizing nuclear deterrence as priorities.

Most republicans are as big of a pos as the dems are.

They're not gonna borrow $5T all at once. Current deficit spending is at least $2T/year. Even IF DOGE can cut $1T, that'll just mean it'll take 5 years to use it up.

What it'll also do is force the dems to raise it again should they somehow weasel their way back into power and put all the bs spending back in place.

How can that be so if the standard deduction is $15,000?

From a quick Google search:

For the 2025 tax year, the standard deduction amounts are:
Single: $15,000.
Married Filing Jointly: $30,000.
Head of Household: $22,500.
Married Filing Separately: $15,000
.

I think he is talking about the EIC. Basically people below a certain income threshold don’t pay taxes (besides FICA) but actually get checks from the IRS.

That was from 2019?.... Still works just as much today as 2019. Until the day it all falls apart and these useless peeps are puking in the hallway.

Yes, floor activity from 2019. Tweet from today.

Here's the late changes Republicans made to Trump's big bill

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans made several eleventh-hour changes to their massive tax cut and immigration bill as they tried to win over GOP holdouts and pass the bill through the House.

The revisions were unveiled late Wednesday evening, just before the House launched into an all-night session to debate and vote on the bill. President Donald Trump has urged Republicans to get behind the legislation, which enacts some of his campaign promises.

I guess that is a victory for House Speaker Johnson then. It's too bad the GOP wasted the opportunity to codify DOGE cuts and eliminate a lot of waste. That's going to haunt them.

^^^ it was gonna get added to no matter who is potus.

To not add to it, requires at least two Trillion $ in spending cuts. Anyone who thinks congress will cut spending by that much is more outta their mind than Joe Biden is.

This one is a bit different. Title is self explanatory. Be interesting to see what the senate does.

Only in politics can an increase in spending be labeled a cut. Buy PMs ladies and gentlemen.
