Sauerkraut and Weenies were a frequent visitor to the supper table when I was a child. It's a Depression Era hotdog meal that will stretch your money and make ends meet. It is a ventage meal that I often enjoy with the memories of the family that I have shared it with. You can leave your hotdogs whole and serve them on a bun with the hot sauerkraut. You can also use a healthier hotdog or sausage. However, you enjoy it Sauerkraut and weenies is an heirloom recipe that is worth bringing back to the table.

Ingredients:
1 Can of Sauerkraut
1/2lb Hot Dogs (Half a pack)
About 2Tbs Butter
Pepper to taste
(Optional 1/2 Onion)

I enjoy porkchops, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Also, pork roast cooked in kraut with mashed potatoes. Hot dogs cooked in kraut is good. And let's not forget kielbasa, kraut and mashed potatoes. Kielbasa on a steak roll with kraut and mustard makes for a good lunch.
 
I made top notch.meatballs in brown gravy with homemade fried rice. You can day drink if you eat it for lunch.

L'Absinthe, one of the best Brasseries ever in NYC
Through the 90's for a nearly 20 year run this was an under the radar classic Brasserie on E 67th st, lead by Maître Cuisinier Chef Jean Michel Bergougnoux, who had trained at the Michelin 3 star Troisgros in France and was previously the CDC at venerable Lutece here in NYC. The room was charming, the crowd typical well heeled UES types, the food and service were always spot on, it was packed nightly but closed unexpectedly in late 2014 due to the usual NYC Real Estate nonsense.

This is a tour of several kosher style delicatessens from the Washington DC area to NYC. I ate a Pastrami Reuben when I could, and just Pastrami if I couldn't. The prices given were accurate when my trip took place in April 2025.This was the most delicious travel one could hope for.

Dramatic? Eh...
But it was a nice touch. The chef was confident to plate the dish at the table, suggesting it was freshly cooked and not ladled out of a pot on a heat tray.
