During both the first and now the second term of President Donald Trump, commentators in the U.S. have invoked the king’s misdeeds to criticize Trump. When the president bypassed Congress to create a new government agency, appointed its head and stopped payment of millions of dollars of allocated federal funds, his critics noted that he assumed the role of Congress, a power grab that supposedly made him similar to George III. According to this criticism, the president engaged in tyranny, just as the founders accused George of doing.

Back in 2009, the Obama administration announced $8 billion in loans to car companies to encourage the production of vehicles powered by electricity for cleaner air. At the time, automobile firms were in extreme distress due to the Great Recession. Ford had a $14 billion loss in 2008, Nissan reported losses in 2009, and fledgling Tesla was so close to failure that Elon Musk agreed to sell 10% of it to Daimler (now known as the Mercedes-Benz Group AG) in Germany. Obama’s Department of Energy loaned Ford the bulk of the money, $5.9 billion, to retool 11 factories; the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan got $1.9 billion to upgrade its Tennessee plant. And $465 million went to Tesla.

Tesla was then considered a start-up that had produced only a novelty car called the Roadster, which cost over $100,000. The ultra-wealthy thought it was cool and fast, and Musk hoped to expand to mass production of a less expensive electric vehicle (EV) called the Model S. A 2012 Tesla press release advertised the new model with a base price of $57,400, but Wall Street Journal reporter Tim Higgins, in his book Power Play: Tesla, Elon Musk, and the Bet of the Century, says that in 2013 it was retailing for $106,900, “a number that was staggeringly more than the $50,000 price tag Musk had promised when he first revealed the vehicle in 2009.”

Yeah. That's written TO Roberts - now that they know he's the weakest link. Seems his research assistant is married to a DNC activist. So the Mockingbird Mediuh is giving him cover, and telling him what a hero he will be by seizing power the Constitution gives to the Executive.

Of course, that leaves Trump with the choice: Either submit to dictatorship-by-politicized-judges; or take it to the next level and ignore the order, probably arresting the Court. That's a lose-lose option, and it makes the dimbulb Left all giggly. We can have war, right here at home! TRUMP DID IT! This is a fast-track to the Grate Reset!

I have my own theory how this winds up. In history, few leaders leading a nation or faction INTO a revolution or revolutionary conflict, remained the leaders going out. Robespierre led the Jacobins into an overthrow of the monarchy, but he kinda lost his head, and in the end, Napoleon Bonaparte was the one standing at the end. Leon Trotsky was a leader in the overthrow of Czarist Russia, but Lenin was the one who saw it out; and Stalin the one to play mop-up. Perhaps part of what he mopped up was, in fact, Lenin. Those facts are lost.

So Trump leads us in, as much a figurehead as leader...who will arise to show the blood-lust that Trump probably does not have? And will we come out looking like the Thirteen Colonies, 1781, or like the Russians after their own Fourth Turning, 1918?

Came across this guy's channel by accident. He has some interesting thoughts on different things. In this vid he talks about Elon Musk, DOGE, AI, useless eaters, a guaranteed annual income, depopulation and war in a way that makes a lot of sense (in my opinion.) It's short (10 mins) and to the point. Reminds me of some of the discussions we had way back when at the old place. Presented in a sane, low-keyed way.

Trump did not rule out the possibility of running for a third term Sunday, telling “Meet the Press” that he’s “focused on the current” and “it’s very early in the administration,” but “a lot of people would like me to” run for a third term and he “likes working.”

Trump said he was “not joking” when he’s made repeated comments suggesting he might want to stay in power for a third term, previously telling GOP lawmakers after his election, “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say, ‘He’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out’” and telling members of the National Rifle Association in May, “Are we three-term or two-term if we win?”

Started the thread as a place to post political crap and opinions that are controversial and might disrupt the other political threads. Would like you and anyone else to swing as free as you want.

As for me.............I don't take the political stuff too serious.

Compelling stories have a protagonist and an antagonist, of course, but also a cohort of archetypal characters that envelop the narrative and give it consistency. And yes, they add depth. In Donald Trump's stellar performance on this Wednesday -Economic Independence Day, as the U.S. President called it- where he announced to the world, at the Rose Garden of the White House, how the 'punitive' tariffs on its traditional partners would be, the protagonist was accompanied by a certain Brian Pannebecker. The antagonists were not invited.
