Developer of buckling NYC building facing $376M claims for life-threatening shortcuts at celeb enclave

MetroLoft, the developer behind the Manhattan high rise that suddenly buckled on Tuesday, is facing a $350 million-plus lawsuit at star-studded 443 Greenwich St., home to names including Rebel Wilson, Harry Styles and Meg Ryan over the last decade.

A construction defect case, alleging a number of structural flaws, initially included $250 million in compensation and insurance claims. That figure has since ballooned to $376 million over the course of the last three years of litigation.

A separate case involving alleged defects at that address has former residents Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel as plaintiffs, though MetroLoft is not a defendant in that case.

MetroLoft has also collected a crush of other construction violations while retrofitting New York skyscrapers and former commercial buildings into luxury residences, city records show.

But chief among the complaints is the case at 443 Greenwich St, which started in 2022.

The real reason Trump is afraid to leave the White House: Haberman

President Donald Trump is traveling considerably less in his second term than he did in his previous one between 2017 and 2021. It was assumed the 80-year-old was slowing down or couldn't hack it with the rigorous schedule he once kept. But it appears there might be another reason, Maggie Haberman teased on Friday.

Speaking to CNN's Audie Cornish, Haberman, co-author of the new book Regime Change, explained that the administration is scared.

Reports are unfolding about the shocking revelations that the reason Trump swapped planes in Turkey to fly part of the way back to the U.S. is there were credible threats of a possible attack on Trump's plane.

Ex-White House deputy warns Trump leaving US at risk of 'fundamental rupture'

President Donald Trump's alienation of key allies is creating a world in which the world views the U.S. as a major threat to be avoided and prepared for, one former White House deputy warned for The New York Times, and the situation is leaving the country at risk of a "fundamental rupture" under future presidents.
Jon Finer is a journalist and diplomat who previously served as deputy national security adviser during the Biden administration, and currently serves as a "distinguished senior fellow" at Yale Law School and the Center for American Progress. In a new opinion piece published by the Times on Sunday, he sounded the alarm about how Trump's treatment of global allies is "already costing us" in the near term, and about how it will leave us weakened in the years to come. Whereas three years ago, he explained, Europe navigated the threats posed to it by China, now it must do so for the U.S. instead.

https://l.smartnews.com/p-86jZ25AQ/bQvCqY Trump wins Participation Trophy, and if you have any, you can send those to him...
The group behind the statues of President Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein is back with a new installation aimed at the war in Iran.

The Secret Handshake is an anonymous art protest group that creates public art along the National Mall for political commentary. A 10-foot-tall "Iran War Participation Trophy" appeared July 13 just south of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bookstore. The golden trophy has a "#1" on the cup and "participant" on the base.

"We hereby award President Donald J. Trump this participation trophy for his enthusiastic involvement in the Iran War," a plaque under the trophy reads. "While some concern themselves with military strategy, diplomacy, or measurable outcomes, President Trump demonstrated the courage to participate regardless of the final score."

Russian oligarchs & London's criminal underworld: Fareed explores

Jul 12, 2026 #News #fareedzakaria
In 2019, a 19-year old man’s body was discovered on the banks of the River Thames in central London. His parents connected with investigative journalist Patrick Radden Keefe, who dug into the mystery surrounding his death.
What he found was a dark interconnected web: Russian oligarchs, London’s underworld and teenage stories of grandeur. CNN’s Fareed Zakaria talks to Keefe about his investigation and his subsequent book about the case.

  • Business is declaring war on a provision tucked into a must-pass defense bill that would restrict Pentagon contractors from executing stock buybacks and paying dividends unless they have the Defense Department’s approval.
  • The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, along with 40 other business groups, sent a letter Tuesday to Senate leaders urging them to strip the measure from the bill — an annual defense policy package called the National Defense Authorization Act.
  • The provision was pushed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and was included in the NDAA on a bipartisan basis, according to members of the committee who spoke to CNBC after their closed-door vote.

Just some food for thought.

Oligarchy Is Preparing to Defend Itself...

Jul 13, 2026 #MoreFromThom
Friday afternoon the Trump administration released a formal proposal to ring Lafayette Square with a permanent fence up to ten feet tall and to install gates across Pennsylvania Avenue at 15th and 17th Streets, all of it designed so officials can seal off America’s most famous protest ground within minutes.

Ex-Canada MP arrested after police seize 439 guns and antique cannon from his home

Ex-Canadian MP Inky Mark has been arrested after police found a trove of guns, ammunition and an antique cannon along with thousands of dollars in cash in his home.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized 439 firearms from his house near Dauphin, Manitoba, last week during a firearms trafficking probe. At least three of the guns were illegally trafficked, RCMP said.

So much fun these outbreaks, particularly after I had a nice bagged salad for dinner last night...
Just the other day I had to stop at a local truck stop. Restroom.

Just off our stretch of Interslab. What hit me was that the place was FILLED - mostly with drivers. PAK! drivers. And other off-brands, quite a few turbans.

AND...who was making sandwiches at the counter, was...let's just say, not the kind of Montanan you'd expect. Almost as if he rode up in one of these trucks with the magnetic signs hung on the side.

I don't like seeing that, but I know this city is Woked to the gills. BUT...am I gonna BUY any of that stuff, after he's probably crapped out his Halal breakfast and used his left hand...and then MADE that thing?

I AM NOT.

Probably never again. Clean food, like well-groomed young women, now is just a memory of the past.

How about just making Standard Time, standard....?

The time used to MEAN something. Noon was when the sun was at its zenith. Now, if the sun comes up early in summer...GET UP EARLIER. GO TO WORK EARLIER. Judas Priest, it's not that hard to figure out. On the golf course, summer weekends...weekends being the hot busy times...we had to show up half an hour before dawn, and have our greens-mowers and tee-mowers going out the barn by earlyist light.

We had to clear off the course by 0800, when the various events would start. Or, if none, when the crowd would roll up.

Having us live in a world where the zenith - the noon - is not noon but 1300...is, frankly, stupid.

Posting as food for thought, nothing more.

Two different things.

Preppers' apocalyptic opinions are based on fact; on observations of trends and historical patterns; on studying how societies have collapsed or devolved into chaos in the past, and how it may happen/is happening.

"The corridors of power" are now filled with those who've been fed a perversion of Christianity, that somehow the return of the Christ is not just a future happening, but something they can MAKE happen. Like the Sunni Moslems' view of the Mahdi - they can bring him out of his hidey-hole well, faster, by BRINGING ABOUT the end of the world.

In the Zionist Christians' case, it seems to be tied to forcing the Promised Land into a chaos displayed in the Book of Revelations. And before Israel can be destroyed, it first must be made great, and the Third Temple erected.

So these Paula-White zombies are looking TO DO what Nuttin' Yahoo demands; and what we're seeing is all part of it. They're literally working to bring on the Apocalypse.

I don't know about you...but this is not what I voted for.

What Todd Blanche accidentally revealed about Trump during his hearing

An attorney general confirmation hearing sounds like a dry affair, so it’s best to state in plain terms what actually happened on Wednesday. Sometimes, only the plainest terms will do to underline a situation that is actually completely bizarre.

Todd Blanche, the man who was Donald Trump’s personal lawyer until about five minutes ago, was seeking the permission of U.S. senators to become America’s top law enforcement officer. He’s been doing the job since Pam Bondi was unceremoniously fired two months ago, proving for the zillionth time that you can sign blood loyalty to Donald and he will reward you with a kick in the teeth (Bondi’s DOJ opened lawsuits against Trump’s political enemies, but they largely went nowhere.)

Ever work in a Union Shop?

It's the opposite of productivity. A helluva lot of time is spent on gamesmanship and passive-aggressive moves against "them." This by management as well....it becomes a guard / inmate mindset.

Unions, their high cost and lowered productivity, were the initial reason why automotive work moved to Japan in the 1960s. Not offshoring jobs directly; just that the Japanese companies, unknown, came into the market with funny-looking little cars that turned out to be, not only cheaper, but assembled far better.

Some types of work, especially within a mega-corporation which may have a monopolistic protection...these may seriously require protection of the workers by an aggressive organization. But, Starbucks? McDonalds? We've seen how that worked out. Service jobs don't benefit from labor unionization - it just creates noise and stress; and there isn't the money for massive pay-raises.

The percentages of union organization have dropped because industrial jobs have disappeared - flown to China.

Doug Casey's Take

Nothing to see. Can listen in one tab, play around the forum in a different tab.

Jul 17, 2026 Doug Casey's Take
Matt and Doug discuss a proposed Trump “$1 gold coin,” calling it inappropriate for a sitting president and a sign of “end-stage empire,” comparing it to Rome’s shift to leaders’ faces on coinage. They also cover a plan to sell early access to Trump’s Truth Social posts for $100,000/month amid allegations of stock front-running, plus a $500,000-entry private D.C. club tied to Trump’s son as legalized influence peddling. The conversation shifts to escalating U.S.-Iran conflict risks, possible boots-on-the-ground odds, Israel’s role, parallels to Iraq/WMD claims, and the financial strain of missile-heavy warfare. They argue oil and gold should rise, criticize claims about U.S. gold reserves, note European sentiment turning against the U.S., discuss surveillance “Flock” cameras, disappointment over lack of major prosecutions, market confusion, and potential opportunities in undervalued oil and dividend-paying gold stocks.

'Invisible to the public': Baptist minister exposes new Trump con game

Salon guest writer Andrew Daugherty says President Donald Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission aims to turn churches into political action committee moneybags.

“The most efficient campaign finance vehicle in American history is tax-exempt, requires no donor disclosure and is available in virtually every zip code in the country. For 70 years, it has operated under one rule: It cannot endorse a political candidate,” said Daugherty. “The Religious Liberty Commission, which delivered its report to President Donald Trump on June 26, would like to remove that rule. They’re calling it religious freedom.”

Ship behind record cocaine seizure finally leaves Irish shores after being sold for 'nominal' fee of one dollar

A seized drug-smuggling cargo ship which cost the Irish State millions to store was transferred to a company for a “nominal” fee of one dollar, Revenue has said.

The MV Matthew was detained in September 2023 as part of an operation which led to the largest seizure of cocaine in Irish history – 2.2 tonnes or 157 million euro.

Revenue detained the vessel and seized the cocaine while An Garda Síochána arrested six of the crew and two men who crewed the “daughter vessel”, the Castlemore, which sank off the coast of Wexford.
