^^^ Why didn't the person in the car with the dashcam run 'em over? It was clearly a life threatening event, so deadly force would clearly have been warranted. Just plow through them, if that's what it takes to make them stop their violent act, so be it. Thugs gotta learn somehow.

PHILADELPHIA — When she set out to adapt her bestselling novel "Long Bright River" for television screens, Philly author Liz Moore was committed to portraying the opioid crisis in the Kensington neighborhood — the backdrop for the novel and its adaptation, now streaming on Peacock — with accuracy and empathy.

Both tend to be challenging to capture in many fictional takes on addiction, Moore said in an interview last month before the show’s premiere.

Kensington, and its highly visible opioid crisis, has been the subject of countless news stories, documentaries, and fictional portrayals, from an entire season of Intervention filmed there to Instagram accounts and livestreams that some say exploit people in addiction for clout and advertising money.

About four times the scale - but, a disaster.

The bigger disruption will be all the money-counting houses moving out - which they WILL do; they're not going to try to work in a city of sewage, dead bodies, and crazed loons looking for blood.

Honestly ? I dont even think about them or even bother talking about it. I'm not a good story teller anyways but I did work the west and south sides and they would have been terrified to do that to us back then. Utterly terrified !!!!

There is a story in every world.

Not that it's easy - one could say, I've failed...PMB, our host, let me post exerpts of what I hoped would be an horrific psychodrama. I have not given up - but, think of it. What could be more boring than running trains? How about, the hell that the railroads put their people through, the stresses, the drinking, the failed relationships....THE DEATHS....the lies, the corporate politics, the personal backgrounds? The people who went stark-raving MAD from all the stress?

Go for it. If you can make it flow better than I've been able to, so far...hat-tip, Seriously. The world needs more storytellers.

Joseph Wambaugh. I don't know if he's loved or hated with current cops or more-recent retired personnel...but, DAMN, he could paint pictures, of what it was like working early-1970s Los Angeles, as a cop.

OK I'll tell you a typical story. One that wont get me indicted.

Working midnights with a young female one night. Nice girl but young and acted like it was either Police work or the nunnery. Real strait lace Catholic type. We we get a call of a loud party on a 3rd floor so we drive over there and I let her take lead up the stairs. The Higher we got the louder it got with a bunch of male voices sounding hysterical.

So she makes it up to the door which was open and I saw her look inside and then turn back white as a ghost. From there she walked down stairs without saying a word, shaken and ashen. So I get up there and look inside and I see its a wedding engagement party for guys "what do they call them"? and the apartment was loaded with drunken frat boys while on the carpet/ground were two buck naked strippers working each other over with the strap on's both had on. I laughed my arse off and needless to say didn't make it back to the car for about 20 mins.

I dont think church was ever the same for my partner. Back then the job had so much hilarity to it you didn't want to go home at the end of the shift. And the drinking was out of control back then. Wambaugh hit the nail right on its head. Wambaugh exaggerated a lot of stuff because theres no real words you could use to describe the Job back then, back when it all wasn't a TV movie. We were hauling dead bodies back then, we called them "stiffs" and you might find that degrading but you have never seen what 90% heat can do to a body when its been laying there for 5 days. In the old folks tenements the elderly can't smell and they would never know the guy above them was dead until he started dripping down on them thru the floor panels.

I still smell those bodies sometimes.
 
So, TELL that story.

Start with, how the day started. You show up, you're assigned that partner. Or she's your partner and you have your doubts.

It's got the essence of a story. Read, maybe, my own tale...the start of my hero who finds himself fired from the Penn Central Railroad. How a nonchalant day starts, turns into crisis, then, crisis averted, then, who-will-be-made-to-pay.

The art of storytelling. It's not hard - but if it's not natural, it takes some focus to develop.

The seatbox, the old-timers called it. Back in the day, they said, it was an actual box – filled with tools. The engineer would perch on it, leaning forward, on the overhead throttle – which worked on linkages to feed steam into the twin cylinders out...
 
This is why I dont tell stories.
