Aug 31, 2025 ALASKA
Driving and doing maintenance on the1916 Mack AC Bulldog facsimile that I created at the turn of the century. Also in this video are Studebaker US6 trucks and an extended hood Peterbilt 359. We've been dealing with a few software issues but hope to be uploading more videos soon: Thanks for watching!

Sell it, donate it — recycle it? A beloved old minivan faces a fork in the road

The 2005 Chrysler Town & Country that's more or less permanently parked in my driveway has seen better days.

And I would know — I remember them. This van was bought by my in-laws, back when my husband and I were high school sweethearts. When we left home and drove across the country at 18 years old, I sat in its front seat and had a good coming-of-age cry. Its ample back carried all our possessions on the long haul across Interstate 10. Many years later, after my in-laws passed it down to us for good, my carpenter husband used it to haul sheets of plywood around with the rear seats folded down. ("Better than a pickup truck," he'd crow with delight.) My kids adore it. They named it Vanny and claim it's secretly a Transformer that can turn into a robot and save the world.

Like everything NPR puts out, this is political.

First. MODERN cars are not lasting 20 years - they barely outlive their warranties. Manufacturers are Woke. It started with the German brands - where they discontinued support of older products, one CEO publicly saying, the customer should get a loan to buy a new VW/BMW/Benz. It was the bullheaded customers who were the problem.

Second, repairing a car is based on economics. Repair price, versus replacement cost. She started touching on the gawd-awful prices of new cars; but didn't address very well how this makes repair MUCH wiser.

Third issue, one she didn't touch on, is the manufacturer - and the support offered. Chrysler Corporation is gone. Stellantis wants to sell Alfa-Romeos and Masaratis. Fiat is again being made into a regional European brand. Dodge and Chrysler are dead brands walking. That goofy Woke test-driver who became Stellantis' first CEO, wanted Jeep to rival Mercedes-Benz in America.

None of this happened, not the least because modern Stellantis products are engineered by contract Indians via Zoom. The cars are excrement.

Meantime, there's the question of support. The weak point of those vans - I had three, over the years - the weak point was, the Ultradrive automatic transmission, the first electronic-shift chip-controlled transmission. They tend to fail every 50k miles. Are they available now, rebuilt or new? Parts?

I can't help but look for a political angle in NPR publication pieces; and this one I see, telling the wealthy cat-lady divorcees to feel GOOD about going and buying a new car.

Nuts.

Don't know if it fits here...but I'll drop it in.

And I'll wonder aloud, why this is not getting more nooze traction.

This guy...is a blowhard and a Mopar fanboi; but in motor-oriented news, he's mostly correct. He likes to do quick five-minute videos, doing about three a day...maximizing traffic and revenue, I suppose.

That said...here he discusses the NO NAME GIVEN California (and New York!) CDLs that the Leftist governments in both states have been issuing. Imagine, being given a CDL without a NAME, even! Like an anon CDL. Prospective truck drivers have to spend BIG MONEY to get CDLs, and get RealID vetting...and here two TDS state governments are just handing them out. COMPLETE WITH THE REAL ID star.

TK has two photo images of the. No one has claimed they're fake. Oklahoma is investigating, after major accidents involving California CDL holders.

Amazing! The Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum in Virginia!

We visit the Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights, Virginia. It's a place jam-packed with classic trucks and tractors and it's open to visitors! Keith Jones founded the museum, and Alan "Bones" Stone is the curator -- and we talked with both of them about how this amazing place was created and what keeps visitors coming back! Find out more about the museum at their website: https://keystonetractorworks.com/

I can't get interested in ANYTHING ChryslerPlymouthDodgeRamJeepFiatStellantis says it's going to build.

The Extra-Care-in-Engineering company, later buttressed by the credibility from former Kaiser-Jeep...today it's all as meaningless as that in a Chinese electric bicycle. Or a Zongshen ZS250GY-3, which is sold here as a CSC RX-3 "Adventure" motorcycle. Buyers who sign the order, don't repeat the mistake.

They don't employ engineers; they contract Zoom candidates with emailed resumes who may (or more likely) may not know their stuff. That's how the Challenger electric and the new Wagoneer were so badly bungled. That's why the Dodge Durango has proven so troublesome that the Indiana Highway Patrol has removed their entire fleet of them from service.

So, what they promise, and what will be delivered, are two different things. Whatever company is owning the Chrysler brands now, has zero cred.

Some stuff I came across by accident. Thought it was interesting.

My 2022 Tacoma! Army green TRD Sport, 2 door V6 manual. I am a lucky dog! Took 7 months to get it, but now I have the most beautiful Tacoma I have ever seen.

And people keep trying to get me to sell it to them.

That's interesting. And...I'll take nothing from it; it's a nice truck.

But I have a pea-green (factory paint) 2000 Tacoma that I've decided is basically superfluous. I'm not driving much, now - less than a thousand miles a month. Camping in the back of the truck, two months ago, was not that successful. I was in motels more than my bed back there.

Camping is now not a priority; and hauling stuff...I'm a cripple with bad hips. I bought the truck same time as the Scion car, in a panic, when I lost my previous truck to an accident, and for a month couldn't find a reasonably-priced good Toyota.

So I had two, thinking I'd figure out which one was more useful.

That was two years and one broken hip ago. But, things have changed; and the truck is probably more useful to someone else.

It's different from yours in that it's 2wd. Which to me is a plus - simpler driveline; better gas mileage. Studded aggressive winter tires are as good on pavement as 4wd without studs. And in my opinion, anyone taking an expensive 4wd truck off on trails rough enough to need it...that person should have an old beater of a rig, not an expensive, new, shiny, mortgaged Bro-Dozer.

So...my low-mileage classic little Japanese truck has gotten, in two months, THREE inquiries, and ONE inspection.

Can't sell it. I'm not broken up; it's paid for and I don't need the money right now; but I'm just amazed why in this insane era of trucks that cost more than my first HOME cost, nobody wants an inexpensive proven-design older model with under 100,000 miles.

CJ, what do you think it should sell for? Maybe someone here has PMs to trade.

My research suggests a FMV of about $8000.

Now, granted, it's not for everyone. It's what used to be called a "conventional" cab (anything but conventional, now). Manual gearbox. Four-cylinder. Zero bling.

Exactly the kind of truck that came off the boat in the 1960s - Toyota and Datsun importing them to California for the Japanese-American gardeners there, to use as Japanese workmen used them at home.

Instead, back then, they took the nation by storm. Today, we're so mind-copulated, so overrun with Influencers, so focused on the silly - like pasting fake badges on some crappy Eurotrash car to "impress" strangers - that, in an era where no one can afford a new truck, and new trucks are low-value propositions, this kind of thing is dismissed.

In reality, I'd drop the price down to $7000, on a deal that was quick and convenient for me. To a serious buyer, I'd be willing to work a bit - get it mechanically inspected, deliver it, etc - but that will affect my negotiation readiness.

Here's the listing on the Liste of Craig:

Maybe someone here has PMs to trade.
How does 1 and 3/4 ounce sound? One K-rand, or Maple, or Eagle; and three 1/4 ounce fractionals. Or seven 1/10th fractionals. Or bring two ounces, and I'll give you a quarter-ounce fractional.

All coins must be (and I'm willing to have) verified by my local expert. Anything I offer, you can verify with your tools or someone you select.

Montana doesn't tax motor-vehicle sales, so sale price need not be stated on the title as I sign it over. But I'll provide a bill of sale with whatever price or (plausible) statement of exchange the buyer may desire.

I don't see a mechanical connection between that ICBM and the truck with the compressor on it, ahead of it.

Just those two flexible soft-ducts.

Why The Farmall Cub Tractor is So Popular (and Still Worth Owning Today!)

Nov 6, 2025 #FarmallCub #Farmall #ClassicTractor
The Farmall Cub may be small, but it’s earned a big reputation over the years. In this video, we share why the Farmall Cub remains one of our favorite tractors — from its clever design and versatility to the simple charm that’s made it a classic. Whether you’re restoring one, considering buying one, or just love old iron, you’ll see why the Cub still deserves a spot in any collection (or on the farm).

I have always wondered why the Big Block wasn't just allowed to die off.

The SBC was engineering brilliance. Eventually it was bumped up in displacement to be greater than the original big block; and I don't remember any reports of shorter life. I don't have power specs side-by-side for similar displacement; but the big block - taller deck, deeper webbing and longer - was considerably heavier.

All gone, now - THANKS TO GOVERNMENT. The two-valves-per-cylinder pushrod V8 couldn't be cleaned up enough while still providing EPA stipulated fleet fuel economy numbers.

The absolute mess we're seeing in the new-car-market, now, is directly the result of insane, political NON-engineer demands on product specs and designs.
