Historic Ukrainian barrage triggers fierce backlash from Russian military bloggers — ISW

ISW analysts noted that while the pro-war blogging community erupted with demands for enhanced air defense networks and severe retaliatory strikes, official Kremlin representatives opted for a highly restrained response. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova criticized the Ukrainian strikes for their alleged impact on civilian populations, completely omitting any mention of several successful Ukrainian hits on Russian defense-industrial plants and critical oil infrastructure facilities.

Similarly, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, attempted to pacify domestic commentators who were clamoring for a nuclear response to the capital's breach. Answering a question from a Kremlin state propagandist regarding whether Russia might deploy "devastating bombs" against Ukraine, Peskov deflected, stating that "a nuclear state cannot be threatened, and its very existence cannot be put at risk."

Ukraine war live: Russia hit ship owned by ally China, says Zelensky

Russia has attacked a Chinese ship headed for a Ukrainian port, Volodymyr Zelensky has said, a move which could anger Beijing one day before a summit between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.

The Russian drone struck the KSL DEYANG vessel flying under Marshall Islands flag off the coast of Ukraine early on Monday, a source earlier told Reuters news agency.

The vessel was did not contain cargo and was bound for Ukraine's Pivdennyi port in the Odesa region where it was to load iron ore concentrate. Although a fire was sparked, the vessel was not seriously damaged and no one was injured.

What will it take for Putin to end the war?

Over the weekend, Kyiv sent a barrage of over 500 drones to Moscow and its environs. Despite new laws restricting the posting of information on drone attacks, residents of Khimki, Mytishchi and Krasnogorsk flooded social media with footage of plumes of smoke rising and drones manoeuvring in the skies over the capital’s suburbs. The attacks – which killed three civilians and left dozens injured – were the first sustained Ukrainian attack on Moscow since the beginning of the war.

Teenage gunmen open fire on San Diego mosque, killing 3 men and then themselves

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Two teenage shooters opened fire at a San Diego mosque on Monday and killed three men before killing themselves a few blocks away, police said.

The attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego is being investigated as a hate crime, San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said at a news conference at a neighborhood park across from the mosque.

He said the “circumstances that led up to this” would come out in the days ahead.

Wahl said later that officers had been talking to one of the teenagers’ mothers earlier in the day after she had contacted police around 9:40 a.m. to say her son was missing along with multiple weapons and her vehicle.

“She was beginning to develop a bigger picture as to what she was dealing with and was conveying that to our folks, and we were trying to put that together and get out in front of this as quickly as we could,” Wahl said.
