War-wounded military veterans peddling cheap patriotic merch are actually AI fakes
NY Post

War-wounded UK military veterans hawking supposedly “handmade” patriotic items in emotional social media videos are nothing but AI-generated phonies selling cheap junk from China, according to a new report.

Hucksters used artificial intelligence to make videos that show disabled and disfigured vets, claiming to have suffered injuries like a lost eye and nose in battle — while they ask for support from sympathetic buyers

AI’s ‘existential risk to humanity’
CNBC

Anthropic plans to warn speculative investors in its IPO prospectus that its AI models pose a “catastrophic or existential risk to humanity."

The five-year-old company, known for its frontier language model Claude, warned that AI can have “self-preserving behaviors,” including being able to “resist shutdown,” “conceal or manipulate information,” and carry out behaviors “resembling blackmail,” per the Reuters report.

The company dedicated over a third of its IPO filing, or around 80 of 261 pages, to laying out the potential risks of the technology it’s developing and is seeking investment for. It only used 48 pages to discuss its actual business.

Dan Ives, partner and senior managing director at Yorkville Ives told CNBC earlier today; “You need guardrails from a safety perspective, but the fact for Anthropic and OpenAI to slow down, if they slowed down, China would just accelerate and win, and I think that’s part of this quagmire that you’re seeing is that there’s some regulatory capture going on. There’s definitely a game of poker, but for Anthropic, they got to continue to put foot on the pedal.”

That's all old news.

Why didn't they scream bloody murder about it then? Why only now?

The information was just released in their IPO prospectus.
And I don't think anybody is into screaming bloody murder.
Well, maybe I need make an exception there — you seem to be.
The AI bros are the ones screaming about it.

The one who posted the recent vid about it is what got the current wave of hysteria about it, going in the first place.

Let's recap.

This Summer an unknown AI guy posts a vid saying AI could kill us all in a few years. Ie: rings the warning bell, but fails to explain how it's gonna kill us all.

Then the big AI bros all agree that what they are doing is potentially dangerous and beg for gov regulation.

Then all the Dems jump on the bandwagon with more fear mongering and promise, if elected, to reign in the dangerous AI companies.

All of that a couple months prior to a big election, when previously they all downplayed the risks of AI.

If any AI company thinks that what they are working on is dangerous, they have a civic duty to stop. There's no need for gov regulations to make them stop.
If they recognize it as a threat, why keep working on it?
