Dow soars 900 points to record as Powell speech sparks market rally: Live updates​

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied to an all-time high Friday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaled the central bank could begin easing monetary policy next month.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed higher by 903 points, or 2%, reaching a fresh high. The S&P 500 climbed 1.6%, while the Nasdaq Composite gained nearly 2%.

Shares of megacap technology stocks soared on Powell’s comments. Nvidia added 1.3%, while Meta, Alphabet and Amazon each climbed more than 2%. Tesla shares jumped about 5%.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied to an all-time high Friday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaled the central bank could begin easing monetary policy next month.

The Dow climbed 846.24 points, or 1.89%, reaching a fresh high and closing at a record level of 45,631.74. The S&P 500 rose 1.52% to end at 6,466.91, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.88% and settled at 21,496.53.

Shares of megacap technology stocks soared on Powell’s comments. Nvidia added 1.3%, while Meta, Alphabet and Amazon each climbed more than 2%. Tesla shares jumped about 5%.

All Rite Aid pharmacies are officially closed in Pa., N.J.​

Pennsylvania’s last Rite Aid pharmacy closed its doors Friday.

The Grindstone location — about an hour south of Pittsburgh —was the commonwealth’s final pharmacy standing, according to a list on the company’s website.

In the Philadelphia region, all pharmacies closed earlier this month, but the retail sections of some stores will remain open through the weekend, according to employees at the stores.

Choice box beef was at $ 406.61 end of this week, which is up $15.22 from last week. Select box beef was at $ 381.46 end of this week, which is up $15.29 from last week. National Base Hog Carcass was $102.20, which is down 3% from last week. Nearby lean hog futures close at $ 91.2,0 which is up $1.10 from a week ago.

Stock futures continue pullback from records as Trump escalates attack on Fed independence: Live updates​

U.S. stock futures were lower early Tuesday adding to a slide in the major averages to start the week, after President Donald Trump removed Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from the board of the central bank.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell 107 points, or 0.24%. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures were down 0.23% and 0.28%, respectively.

The ICE U.S. Dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, were las seen flat after shedding 0.3% in a rapid move overnight just after Trump posted the news on his Truth Social. The 2-year Treasury yield, a rate sensitive to Fed moves, ticked lower by 4 basis points. One basis point equals 0.01%.

Domestic, global factors restrain ferrous pricing​

Prices for benchmark grades of recycled steel in the United States stayed level or rose by less than $5 per ton in August, according to mill buying transaction figures gathered by Pittsburgh-based MSA Inc.’s Raw Material Data Aggregation Service (RMDAS).

In its domestic mill buying summary for July 21 to Aug. 20, RMDAS reports the value of prompt grades was unchanged compared with the previous 30-day period.

Mills paid an additional $1 per ton for No. 2 shredded scrap in the U.S. in August, meanwhile, and No. 1 heavy melting steel (HMS) gained $4 per ton based on domestic mill buying patterns.

S&P 500 closes at record high as traders brace for Nvidia earnings: Live updates​

The S&P 500 ticked higher on Wednesday as investors turned their eyes to Nvidia earnings, which could be a make-or-break moment for the bull market.

The broad market index ended the day up 0.2% at 6,481.38, setting a fresh all-time closing high. The Nasdaq Composite closed up 0.2% at 21,590.14 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 147 points, or 0.3%, to finish at 45,565.11.

Shares of Nvidia, which account for roughly 8% of the S&P 500 and has the biggest weight in the benchmark according to FactSet data, were little changed.
