Are Investor Money Flows Into Treasuries Predicting A Hard Landing Recession?

Oct 31, 2023

10:58

While both the bond and stock market have been falling, investor money is moving out of money market accounts and into stocks and longer term Treasury Bonds. Is this move into longer term Treasury Bonds a prediction that investors are expecting a hard landing recession that will force the Federal Reserve to drastically lower interest rates?
I look at the report from the CIO of Bank Of America, Michael Hartnett as he provides data about the money flows out of Money Market Funds and how they are flowing into longer term Treasury Bonds. The money flows indicate that investors are expecting a hard landing recession even though we just had very strong GDP growth.

New YorkCNN —
Retailers say theft is exploding, and some data from retailers along with numerous videos of violent store robberies and looting seem to support the claim.

But some retail analysts and researchers, bolstered by local crime statistics, say stores may be over-stating the extent and impact of theft. Why? It’s a useful deflection, camouflaging weak demand, mismanagement and other issues denting business right now. And it forces lawmakers to respond.

A look at the day ahead in U.S. and global markets from Mike Dolan

After its best week of 2023 on optimism about peaking interest rates, Wall Street's S&P500 (.SPX) looks set to record its longest winning streak since June as a key Federal Reserve loan report may well sustain the rates buzz.

A below-forecast national payroll gain last month, a tick higher in the unemployment rate and moderating wage growth all catapulted stocks and bonds higher on Friday after a week brimming with hope the rate hiking campaign of the major central banks is over at last and a relatively soft landing beckons.
