CHICAGO, Nov 10 (Reuters) - The United States is importing record amounts of beef this year and exporting less after ranchers slashed the nation's cattle herd to its lowest level in decades, tightening margins for meat companies like Tyson Foods (TSN.N).

The decline in cattle numbers, after years of drought fried pasture lands used for grazing, led to soaring U.S. beef prices. Higher prices incentivize companies to import cheaper beef and discourage U.S. beef purchases by buyers like China, Japan and Egypt.

Nov 12, 2023 (Bloomberg) –Consumers gearing up to buy the latest imported appliances, clothes or electronic gadgets this holiday season might want to spare a thought for the companies that will struggle to make money for the next few years hauling products across the ocean.

That’s because the container shipping industry, cast as the Grinch that spoiled Christmas over the past two years with record-high freight rates and slow deliveries, is returning to its pre-pandemic place in the corporate world: perennial underachiever Charlie Brown.

Why Oil Giants Shell And BP Are Investing In U.S. Farmland

Nov 14, 2023

Through partnerships with solar energy developers, oil giants BP and Shell are investing in an emerging industry called agrivoltaics, which combines solar energy generation with agricultural activities such as sheep grazing, beekeeping and crop production. Nov 14, 2023

This week Will and Ben break down how a USDA report shook up the markets last week.
Russia’s Marine Rescue Service is attempting to pump the fuel off a stranded product tanker that is aground off Sakhalin Island and caught in fierce winter storms. The efforts began today, Tuesday, November 14, and they are working to complete it before there is a significant oil leak and environmental situation.

According to the reports, the product tanker Victoria registered in Russia had departed Vladivostok and was transiting the Tatar Strait between the mainland of Russia and Sakhalin Island when the ship experienced problems with its main engine. The captain issued a distress call on November 10 reporting the main engine was not working and the steering control was damaged.

In a series of dawn raids, the UK’s Serious Fraud Office joined the widening investigation into the downfall of historic London legal firm Ince & Company, which had been in the shipping trade for more than 150 years. Due to the complexity of the alleged fraud, London’s Metropolitan Police referred the case to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) which is now assisting in the investigation.

Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has introduced the marine sector’s first commercially available four-stroke engine-based solution for ammonia fuel.

Viridis Bulk Carriers, the world’s first zero-emission shipping company, will be the first shipowner to benefit from the new ammonia solution. The company is a partnership between Amon Maritime, Mosvolds Rederi, and Navigare Logistics.

In the early morning hours of March 8, 2021, a small inflatable boat powered by an outboard motor covertly made its way into the port of Montevideo to unload a dying deckhand, and then sped away.

The deckhand, a slight 20-year-old Indonesian named Daniel Aritonang, had been at sea for the previous year and a half, working on a Chinese squid-fishing ship called the Zhen Fa 7. Now he was dumped dockside, barely conscious, with two black eyes, bruises along the sides of his torso, and rope marks around his neck. His feet and hands were bloated, the size of melons.
