Meantime, in this wonderful Post-Religgion era (Mark Twain's spelling, when he was mocking fake preachers) we have an issue emerging.

NO ONE...tells the TROOF. No one tries to deliver value for value. Not insurance companies; not automakers or household durable-goods manufacturers.

Insurance companies offer absurd reasons to deny payment on medical claims or property damages. Automakers have cheapened their products to where they're DESIGNED to fail about the time of warranty expiration - and have made repairs FAR too costly to reasonably perform, in most cases. There is no reason why an engine should have to be removed to replace a (plastic) intake manifold when it fails...and it WILL fail, because plastic is not appropriate for something exposed to so much heat. Why should an engine be out to replace a camshaft timing belt? Why would a BELT be running through ENGINE OIL? I've done timing belts with a set of Kmart tools, a $30 replacement timing belt, and two days of fumbling. A professional would have needed two hours.

What it adds up is RIPOFF. Or, as the economists now say: "Wealth Extraction." Which is legal (thanks in part to lobbyists' valiant efforts) - but is it MORAL?

Remember, Ronnie - MORALITY is one's PUBLIC POSTURING. Religion is irrelevant, and so, even if an old fuddy accepts the Ten Commandments, it's how YOU INTERPRET your abidance to them. Not how closely you DO abide.

Situational Ethics, that's how we roll - here where God is dead, and public life and honest dealing, are all dying with it.

World Cup nations worry about travel in Trump's America

This summer, for the first time since 1994, the FIFA World Cup is coming back to North America. The tri-national hosting gig between the United States, Canada, and Mexico should be a celebration of the continental growth of soccer, and the unifying power of the most popular sport in the world. But this is 2026, and Donald Trump is in charge.

The tournament is taking place against a backdrop of violent enforced nativism and foreign interventionism from the United States. The Trump administration has turned anti-immigrant policies into a deadly surveillance and deportation machine, and placed hardline restrictions on travel and tourism from majority Black and Muslim countries. It is currently waging a war against Iran - a qualifying country in the tournament - and causing a global fuel shortage that has skyrocketed travel and logistics costs ahead of the tournament.

Countries are being backed into a corner, human rights groups are concerned, and fans are considering traveling only to Canada or Mexico - or skipping the World Cup entirely - in order to avoid potential encounters with an administration that seems set on making an example out of foreigners.

Trump reveals his huge insecurity around 'good-looking people'

President Donald Trump made a startling confession about his feelings toward attractive men while welcoming the 2026 National Football Champions to the White House.

The president hosted members of the Indiana Hoosiers on May 11, several months after the squad secured a national title. During his speech, Trump gestured toward one of the players positioned behind him.

'Total disaster'. Trump eyes Kentucy's Thomas Massie in latest MAGA purge

When early voting began in Kentucky's May 19 primary election, Lisa Robbins was ready to pull the lever for Rep. Thomas Massie, a libertarian-leaning Republican known in Congress to often be a lone vote, especially within his own party when it comes to resisting the Trump administration.

The 66-year-old retired sales executive voted for the eight-term lawmaker in every previous election.

"It's my understanding that Massie votes to minimize spending," Robins told USA TODAY in an interview.

Trump settles IRS lawsuit, sets up $1.7B fund for claims of "weaponization"

President Trump and the Justice Department reached a $1.7 billion settlement in the president's lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service and Treasury Department over the leak of his tax returns, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced Monday.

The Justice Department said that Mr. Trump and the other plaintiffs in the suit — two of his sons and the Trump Organization —will receive a formal apology but "no monetary payment or damages of any kind." Instead, a $1.776 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund" will be created at Blanche's direction to "provide a systematic process to hear and redress claims of others who suffered weaponization and lawfare."

Elon Musk loses court battle with OpenAI’s Sam Altman. These are the winners.

A jury in Oakland, Calif., found OpenAI and its leaders not liable for claims brought against it by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Musk had alleged that the artificial intelligence firm, which was founded as a not-for-profit, “stole a charity” when it evolved into a for-profit company. He co-founded OpenAI in 2015, along with CEO Sam Altman and others, before stepping away in 2018.

Not making a statement with this. Posting as food for thought and because I find it interesting, nothing more. Make of it what you will.

:dontknow:

  • Federal tax returns filed by President Donald Trump, family members, the Trump Organization, and related trusts and affiliates before this week are protected from potential Internal Revenue Service enforcement actions under a controversial $1.8 billion settlement with the Justice Department, a new document posted Tuesday shows.
  • The document posted Tuesday was signed by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who is Trump’s former criminal defense lawyer.
  • Blanche, in testimony Tuesday to a Senate subcommittee, would not rule out the Anti-Weaponization Fund making payments to people convicted of assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot by Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol.

The truth about Donald Trump’s sanity

President Donald Trump has labeled numerous Americans—from Republican lawmakers to patriotic policy experts—as “stupid” and even “treasonous.”

Such behavior has led many to question Trump’s sanity and to offer the President some labels in turn, including “unhinged,” “lunatic,” and “clearly insane.”

It is easy to understand why Trump’s erratic actions and head-spinning reversals have raised questions about his mental health. For instance, on social media, Trump posts manic and divisive conspiracy theories, false allegations, and insults against his adversaries. Some former associates and partisan rivals even suggest Trump has experienced a pronounced cognitive and emotional decline.

After ousting foes in primaries, Trump threatens Philly-area Republican Brian Fitzpatrick

PHILADELPHIA — Fresh off defeating a string of Republicans who have defied him, President Donald Trump Wednesday threatened U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R.-Pa., without saying his name when asked a question by Fitzpatrick’s fiancée, Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich.

“Her husband votes against me all the time. Can you imagine? I don’t know what’s with him. You better ask what’s with him,” Trump said to reporters ahead of a trip to Connecticut to deliver the commencement address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
