Why Did Bangkok 33-Story Building COLLAPSE? Chinese Crime?
Jeff Ostroff analyzes new evidence from the Thai government investigation into the collapse of the 33-story State Audit Office tower during the earthquake that struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, killing at least 20 and up to 75 people still missing in the rubble pile. We analyze several videos of the collapse to narrow the root cause area of the building collapse, then analyze the testing analysis of materials from the collapse site debris pile.
But how did this beautiful skyscraper design go from the bragging pride of the Chinese contractor to being topped off and built to final shape, and go from this to collapsing like this in the middle of an earthquake 600 miles away when it should have easily stood its ground? Fasten your seat belts; it's going to be a bumpy ride as we analyze some video of the collapse to determine what failed 1st and then look at new forensic testing and analysis evidence from the Thai government on what caused this Bangkok collapse.
and the new potentially criminal angle the thai government investigation is pointing to with potential future criminal charges against the Chinese.
This was the State Audit Office building, which was under construction then. Located on Kamphaeng Phet Road in the Chatuchak district, near the Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal and the Chatuchak Weekend Market, the building was intended to serve as the new headquarters for Thailand's State Audit Office. Construction began in 2020, and the structure had topped out in April 2024. At the time of the earthquake, the project was approximately 30% complete, with ongoing installations of piping and glass walls.
The collapse resulted in 19 confirmed deaths, 33 injuries, and 73 individuals reported missing. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities search for survivors and assess the full extent of the damage.
The 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, had its epicenter near Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city. The distance between Mandalay and Bangkok is approximately 600 miles (965 kilometers). Despite this considerable distance, the earthquake's tremors were strongly felt in Bangkok, 600 miles away, leading to significant disruptions and damage within the city.
