Tomatoes are so easy to grow there is really no reason to ever buy them from a grocery store..

I picked up my 1/2 beef the other day. Worked out to 265 lbs in the freezer for 2300. About 8.70 a lb. Expensive for ground beef but cheap for most other cuts. My guess is if I went to the grocery store I could save roughly 500 bucks over buying it from the local farmer but where does grocery store beef come from? How many different animals are you buying you went in and bought up 100 lbs of ground beef and 30 lbs of roasts ect. In my life I have pissed away far more than 500 bucks on far worse things than supporting my local farmer so I'm ok with the price.

Costco seems to be coming down on beef prices. Been seeing prime rib eye for 12.99 if you buy it whole and cut it yourself.

I have found with my diabetes that if I eat the protein 1st I can have some carbs afterwards. The portion slows the uptake of the carbs and I dont get a huge spike like I would if I just ate a bowl of rice. Lets;y I have been eating baked sweet potato as a snack. Just butter when it's finished. my BS jumps to around 220-230 but only for a very short time and it comes right back down. Not sure why.

A Michael B opinion piece. As usual, dyodd.

You'd be better off eating a bowl of ice cream instead of rice. Especially white rice.

I say that just having gotten done eating some white rice with terriaki chicken.
......but I'm not diabetic. It'll spike mine to about 150, then head right back down.

Yep, I have seen it. A few weeks ago, I snagged a brisket marked down to $3.50 It was fatty, but no problem. I ground up some for burger and used the rest for stew. Next time at Walmart, no deals.

Now that ground beef is around $5, I am looking at every chance to just buy better cuts and grind them up myself.

EDIT: Every time I visit WM, I check for their "value" burgers with heart meat. It is hit and miss, but last time I got two boxes (5 pounds, 20 burgers) for $12 each. Can't beat $2.40 a pound for decent meat that does not shrink as much as their usual hamburger.
