Another Piece of Radio History Slipping Away? WBCQ Is for Sale

Oct 10, 2026
What a shame. This morning it was announced that WBCQ ,the Powerhouse shortwave station in Maine is up for sale. It is unlikely that it will be sold and far more likely that it will be sold off for land value.
It's a great station run by great people. It was an honor to be a part of it!

This particular radio is really wonderful, but as you will see it shines the most on CW (telegraphy), as its filters allow the operator to dig out a weak signal buried in the noise and make it perfectly readable.
Skanti was a Danish company specialised in marine radio communication equipment (and later in satellite telephones) which is, sadly, gone forever.
