That's how Texas does it. Legislative session is for 5 Months ,every 2 years and the pay ain't much. The longer congress is closed, the less you need them, make it a part time job and reduce wages...
Colorado used to be that way, long ago, also. In the early-1990s, I lived in Denver - went there after separating from the Navv. I had a lowly job, but I had friends who were friends of the Coors family. One older co-worker's wife had been a childhood playmate of Peter Coors - she fell a long way, socially; drugs and alcohol. But she was re-establishing old ties; and had had lunch with him a few times. That's how Texas does it. Legislative session is for 5 Months ,every 2 years and the pay ain't much.
An amazing amount of government workers are still on the job even though they are not getting paid, the service academies like West Point, Annapolis, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The Air Traffic Controllers are still working, Mail is still moving, et cetera...Government shutdown?
I really haven't noticed.
Do they do anything?
I've never thought I got my money's worth from them anyways.
They ain't gettin paid now, are they?
They're still stealin from our paychecks.
19 days, so one paycheck missed already, military not getting paid either...Prolly just because payday hasn't happened yet.
You missed the story, Trump put out the radical left bit...not the agency that was shut down.I would be curious how others have noticed or been affected by the gov shut down
for example the only thing that has affected us are
we rent a no-till drill for our property occasionally to replant some small fields ....the local soil n water district office was closed but had a cell phone number posted on the door and we were able to still rent it on a honor system (they will bill me later)
we also do volenteer work in national forests keeping trails open and are putting on a chainsaw training soon so forest chiefs email and phones are down ...so we still communicate via personal cell
i do find it intresting gov websites and voice mails do call it the democrat shut down this is a copy of what is posted on the home page of forest service
"The Radical Left Democrats shut down the government. This government website will be updated periodically during the funding lapse for mission critical functions. President Trump has made it clear he wants to keep the government open and support those who feed, fuel, and clothe the American people.
For information on recreation site status on National Forest System lands, please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/visit."
I know, Congress gone and I barely miss them...19 days? My how time flies when something broken quits working.
Must be my clock…
Coming from the top, I expect.i do find it intresting gov websites and voice mails do call it the democrat shut down this is a copy of what is posted on the home page of forest service

That's a lot of Cubans. The US has to borrow 1 trillion a year just to pay the interest on the debt. Works out to about 3 billion a day. 3 billion a day is borrowed just to pay interest on money already borrowed. Absolute insanity.
good question......if i get a chance i will ask my FFL brother in law whats upBATF shut down affecting gun owners, no silencers, SBS's, or SBR's either...I haven't tried to buy a gun lately but is somebody answering the computer when you are trying to get approval?
Zats OK, it's why us old farts stack PMs.And so the riots start...only a matter of time till the Republicans cut Social Security.
"May you live in interesting times" or something like that.Zats OK, it's why us old farts stack PMs.
How much does a tele-consultation COST? And why wouldn't it be re-payable once the situation is resolved, just as with goobermint drones' pay?Medicare coverage for telehealth suspended as result of government shutdown
Steve Hirst relies on virtual visits with his urologist, whose office is an hour away from his Broomall home, to stay on top of his treatment plan and renew medications.
But earlier this month Hirst, 70, got a notice from his doctor's office informing him that it could no longer schedule telemedicine visits for patients like him who have Medicare because of new federal policy changes.
Medicare began covering telemedicine services during the COVID-19 pandemic and has maintained the popular offering through temporary waivers approved by Congress since. But the most recent of those waivers expired at the end of September when Congress failed to reach a budget deal and the government shut down.

Not $65k cars.Working people tend to need cars, just a fact of life. It's easy to stack food for a single guy but for a family, not so much...me, I wouldn't need to leave the house for months.
You simply can not expect people to go get their government funding in old used camry's. Everyone in the hood be laughing you out of the hood if they saw that. It's a caddy or nothin. Not $65k cars.
In most metro areas, a little searching will pull up an aged Camry - maybe 20-25 years old - available for about $5-7k.
And they're the cockroaches of the road. It's hard to kill them.
Remember, here, we're talking about need-versus-desire.
