The longer congress is closed, the less you need them, make it a part time job and reduce wages...

That's how Texas does it. Legislative session is for 5 Months ,every 2 years and the pay ain't much.

Colorado used to be that way, long ago, also. In the early-1990s, I lived in Denver - went there after separating from the Navv. I had a lowly job, but I had friends who were friends of the Coors family. One older co-worker's wife had been a childhood playmate of Peter Coors - she fell a long way, socially; drugs and alcohol. But she was re-establishing old ties; and had had lunch with him a few times.

She had been a political junkie in college, and she hit on the idea: To run me for the State Legislature.

It was all planned out. I was told to read six specific books on Colorado history (me being a newcomer) and then she'd arrange a dinner with Peter and his advisers. He'd feel me out, and if he liked what he saw, he'd fund a campaign.

But then I looked at a legislator's salary. $14,500 a year. Not even wages! It was considered a part-time gig, and legislators were expected to kill what they eat, find a way to support themselves. It was more of a hobby than anything.

The dinner with Coors never happened. I expect if I had pursued it, and he liked my cut, he'd have put me on the Coors payroll. But probably not for long - it was only a few years later that Molson bought out his crappy little beer empire.

I expect now the legislature pays MUCH moar, and they're quite busy getting instructions from the LGBTQ++ mafia, which controls the state now.

An amazing amount of government workers are still on the job even though they are not getting paid, the service academies like West Point, Annapolis, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The Air Traffic Controllers are still working, Mail is still moving, et cetera...

I would be curious how others have noticed or been affected by the gov shut down

for example the only thing that has affected us are

we rent a no-till drill for our property occasionally to replant some small fields ....the local soil n water district office was closed but had a cell phone number posted on the door and we were able to still rent it on a honor system (they will bill me later)

we also do volenteer work in national forests keeping trails open and are putting on a chainsaw training soon so forest chiefs email and phones are down ...so we still communicate via personal cell

i do find it intresting gov websites and voice mails do call it the democrat shut down this is a copy of what is posted on the home page of forest service

"The Radical Left Democrats shut down the government. This government website will be updated periodically during the funding lapse for mission critical functions. President Trump has made it clear he wants to keep the government open and support those who feed, fuel, and clothe the American people.

For information on recreation site status on National Forest System lands, please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/visit."

You missed the story, Trump put out the radical left bit...not the agency that was shut down.

Coming from the top, I expect.

The bureaucracy has been radicalized. A result of Woke Feminism, which was imported through DEI, which was imported through Ⓓemofem congresscretins; which were grown, like mold, through feminazi meⒹiuh agitators.

The RINOpubicans didn't start this; but now, given the opportunity to end or curtail it...they instead embrace it, like good Unipartisans.

Having been to the VA since the non-shutdown began, I can tell you that the people who're paid to be thinking about patient-veterans' health, are instead hurling hate-spitball snippets into conversation every chance they get.

In true feminine nature. This is what wombynz DO - they cannot comparmentalize; if they hate you, and then find themselves charged with your healthcare, they'll feel all righteous about putting Clorox in your saline drip to kill you.

So. We bring the "discussion" of politics (hate-filled invective and lies) into our routine interfacing with government. What Feminazism hath brought us.

The US has to borrow 1 trillion a year just to pay the interest on the debt. Works out to about 3 billion a day. 3 billion a day is borrowed just to pay interest on money already borrowed. Absolute insanity.
That's a lot of Cubans.

BATF shut down affecting gun owners, no silencers, SBS's, or SBR's either...I haven't tried to buy a gun lately but is somebody answering the computer when you are trying to get approval?

Medicare coverage for telehealth suspended as result of government shutdown

Steve Hirst relies on virtual visits with his urologist, whose office is an hour away from his Broomall home, to stay on top of his treatment plan and renew medications.

But earlier this month Hirst, 70, got a notice from his doctor's office informing him that it could no longer schedule telemedicine visits for patients like him who have Medicare because of new federal policy changes.

Medicare began covering telemedicine services during the COVID-19 pandemic and has maintained the popular offering through temporary waivers approved by Congress since. But the most recent of those waivers expired at the end of September when Congress failed to reach a budget deal and the government shut down.

How much does a tele-consultation COST? And why wouldn't it be re-payable once the situation is resolved, just as with goobermint drones' pay?

This is political. Spread the pain, build the pressure. For the Circle-D Party-of-Chaos.

Zoro Fox Gibbon.

I get a QUARTER of what they receive; and - having done the math - I can make it two months without selling any of my stacks. I DAMN sure don't need Food Bank help - at least partly because I have no car note; the only bill is rent; and because I have over six months of food in storage.

It just shows the de-volution of the Fuddrel "work" force. Used to be it was cat ladies with ugly eyeglasses and Donut-Guts. Now it's entitled 'groids, who want us to feel sorry for them because they can't make the payment on the new car most of us cannot afford.

Working people tend to need cars, just a fact of life. It's easy to stack food for a single guy but for a family, not so much...me, I wouldn't need to leave the house for months.

Not $65k cars.

In most metro areas, a little searching will pull up an aged Camry - maybe 20-25 years old - available for about $5-7k.

And they're the cockroaches of the road. It's hard to kill them.

Remember, here, we're talking about need-versus-desire.

You simply can not expect people to go get their government funding in old used camry's. Everyone in the hood be laughing you out of the hood if they saw that. It's a caddy or nothin.
