A Farewell to the Voice of America on Shortwave​

On March 14th, 2025. President Trump signed an Executive Order to defund more federal agencies to cut taxes. One of them being the United States Agency for Global Media which held the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty, Radio Marti, Radio Farda, Radio Free Asia and others. (Although this was more of a political defunding more than a tax cut as Trump hasn't liked the USAGM since his first term.) 1,300 employees are now on paid leave. All USAGM stations on shortwave were either playing music or old news stories. All overseas relays ceased on March 17th, 2025. The result, more chaos that is definitely not worth the few dollars off our tax sheets.

Trump’s assault on Voice of America and Radio Free Asia celebrated by Chinese state media​

Donald Trump’s decision to slash funding for the government-run Voice of America and Radio Free Asia is being celebrated by Chinese state media for “eliminating fake news”.

The president signed an order last weekend ending grants to federally funded news organisations and instructing them to put almost the entire staff on leave. He accused VOA of being "anti-Trump" and "radical".

AFN to Reduce Radio Programs​

The American Forces Network, AFN, will be reducing radio programs on May 1, 2025, to better streamline operations. The reductions in radio programs include removal of AFN Legacy, Freedom Rock, The Blend, and Joe Radio. Commercially produced podcasts will also no longer be available on the audio streaming service, AFN Go.

The historic radio network will continue to provide military audiences with a variety of top-rated music, entertainment, and news channels on its AFN Go app. AFN's 24 Eagle radio stations around the world will continue serving U.S. military communities overseas.
