Bringing in 2026 on longwave 198 kHz using radio technology from 1926...​

So it lasted about 100 years - not bad going for any type of technology! This is almost certainly the last time I will ever be able to record the coming of the New Year on longwave which is a huge shame, so it was fitting to do so for the last time with my crystal radio set attached to a random wire antenna. Hi there, sad times for those of us who have spent years/decades looking forward to receiving the next edition of the WRTH in print. That has unfortunately come to an end, but we must be grateful the team at RDC are continuing via two digital platforms. More on that to come.

BBC RADIO 4 LONG WAVE - How far away could you receive it?​

BBC Radio 4 Long Wave on 198KHz has been threatened with closure for many years. Here was an opportunity to see just how far away one could receive the signal on a small portable transistor radio.
