Bringing in 2026 on longwave 198 kHz using radio technology from 1926...​

So it lasted about 100 years - not bad going for any type of technology! This is almost certainly the last time I will ever be able to record the coming of the New Year on longwave which is a huge shame, so it was fitting to do so for the last time with my crystal radio set attached to a random wire antenna. How to listen to SW & HAM radio indoors using a small loop antenna.​

Hi. In this video I am going to show you how you can listen to Shortwave and Ham Radio whilst sitting indoors in the comfort of your own home. I use a small portable mini loop antenna to tune out unwanted electrical noise. I will show you a selection of different radios that i use ranging from the cheapest below £30 to the most expensive around £150. These radio's have either been reviewed on the channel or will be reviewed very soon. Finally back up in the shack i will talk about other cheaper antenna options that you can try to use indoors and reduce noise. Links to the equipment used in the video are below. There has been a lot of action on shortwave radio since the start of the US and Israeli assault on Iran, and Iran's counterstrikes. In this video you can see some of the current shortwave action aimed toward Iran — including three new Voice of America frequencies and a new Radio Farda frequency.
There is much more. IRIB Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran is still on air, a newly reported numbers station, BBC’s emergency lifeline broadcasts and Iran International TV audio relays, as well as several other clandestine stations.
The reliance of shortwave radio during the current war in Iran and the Middle East just shows how this old technology still serves a real purpose in the internet era. When the internet is down, as it is in Iran, only radio works.
